I noticed something odd…

26 Dec

Take a look at this:

Can you see what’s wrong? Color choice, maybe, but that’s not what’s REALLY wrong. The problem is that none of these items have a matching pair.

This is why we can’t have nice things that come in twos.

I’m working on a pair of gloves (ALL TWO!) right now. I have no excuse for not finishing these gloves; I’m already mostly packed for my sister’s wedding and the apartment is clean. So! Check back in a couple days. Unless I get completely distracted by a Doctor Who novel or Guild Wars: Factions & Eye of the North expansion (thank you, in-laws!) I will finally prove that I’m not that lazy.

Since I made a new hat for nephew, I didn’t know what to do with the old one… other than put it on my own head.

Tah-dah! One baby’s waaayyyy-too-big hat is a Michelle’s awesome slouch hat.

Quick update: I did make a new hat  for nephew and I like it A LOT better. I didn’t make the mistake of attempting intarsia in the round and made this hat flat. I sewed up the seam with a mattress stitch –which is one of my favorites, right up there with kitchener stitch.

Merry Christmas on the proper day that is Christmas!

TARDIH: Time And Relative Dimensions In Hat (It’s bigger on the inside)

24 Dec

I tend to be a little conflicted about gifting to people with Mid- to Late December birthdays. Do I give you a gift for your birthday AND Christmas? If I only give you one, will you feel cheated?

My nephew’s birthday is on the 14th. We gave him a Cardinals teddy bear for his birthday, but I felt a little guilty not having a Christmas present for him. So, this morning, I gathered up some blue, black, and white yarn for –wait for it — a TARDIS hat. Brilliant right?

It probably would have been better if I followed a pattern intended for worsted weight yarn, but alas, I never do follow those instructions. It turned out a little big, but I’m going to line it to make it fit… or I may even make a new one.

Regardless, here it is:

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Just an update

13 Dec

Things have been a tad bit hectic in the life of Michelle.

It’s finals week and even though I have time to knit, I’m spending time at work for the sake of killing time with this:

I’ve been knitting some gifts and I’m sure that’s what I’ll do when I finally go home today.

It’s pretty obvious that I didn’t do my “365 days of knitting,” but I now realize that it was pretty unrealistic as a full-time student with a job and half a social life. I did finish a couple big projects over the summer –namely my sweater. I haven’t worn it yet, but I will eventually. It’s certainly cold enough.

I told a couple of my co-workers that I’m not leaving the office until it’s above 10°F. Aren (Editor-in-Chief) said I’d be here for a couple days. Truth.

I’m not sure how much knitting I’ll be able to do over break. This weekend is my nephew’s 1st birthday and Christmas #1. Next week, I should be able to spend a good amount of time knitting, which will be measured in “Psych” episodes. Christmas Eve is Christmas #2. I’ll have couple more days to knit between Christmas and my sister’s wedding in California. It’s a pretty packed weekend, so bringing my knitting stuff will be pointless. Plus, I have to find time to hit up my favorite food establishments (In ‘n Out Burger, Frodo Joe’s and a couple places in Oakland Chinatown) and catch up with friends. I’m not sure the next 3 weeks will really be a break.

A week after I return, it’s back to school I go.

If you don’t follow me on twitter, I invite you to read a couple movie reviews I did recently:
127 Hours
The King’s Speech

Why so scarce?

2 Nov

School and work, y’know? I never knew I could be so busy. Fortunately, I have resumed yarning in class.

So there you have it. I’m still alive and I’m still knitting and crocheting.

So yeah. SCC’s yarn looks so so pretty. If you do teh yarn thing, DEFINITELY check out SCC’s etsy, twitter and blog.

Where is time?!

14 Oct

Of course, time in intangible so it doesn’t have an actual location. Fourth Dimension…

Anyway, the majority of my time is either in the Alestle office/working, doing homework, or sleeping. I haven’t gone to JoAnn yet, but I plan to very soon. VERY SOON.

I recently cleaned up (kind of) my yarn area. The only problem is that when Husband emptied his art cart for my knitting stuff I didn’t know he wanted to trade. I thought he was being nice and letting me have TWO carts so I wouldn’t have to store yarn in cardboard boxes. I’m EXTREMELY opposed to throwing away large amounts of yarn, even if it is from a project I planned to do 5 years ago. Know what this means? Everyone I know is going to receive something knit or crocheted for Christmas… and it’ll probably be kitchy, not functional.

“Cold?” you may be asking yourself. Yes. I am cold. This has not been a friendly morning. I woke up late and was frazzled to the point that I didn’t want to drive. I didn’t go back inside to get a sweater despite Husband’s advice and now I am alone in the office typing and… being cold.

I’ll take pictures of my yarn CARTS when I get home… later… much much later…

This is a baby platypus.
