Coming soon to a holyknit.wordpress.com near you!

27 Dec

I noticed something odd…

26 Dec

Take a look at this:

Can you see what’s wrong? Color choice, maybe, but that’s not what’s REALLY wrong. The problem is that none of these items have a matching pair.

This is why we can’t have nice things that come in twos.

I’m working on a pair of gloves (ALL TWO!) right now. I have no excuse for not finishing these gloves; I’m already mostly packed for my sister’s wedding and the apartment is clean. So! Check back in a couple days. Unless I get completely distracted by a Doctor Who novel or Guild Wars: Factions & Eye of the North expansion (thank you, in-laws!) I will finally prove that I’m not that lazy.

Since I made a new hat for nephew, I didn’t know what to do with the old one… other than put it on my own head.

Tah-dah! One baby’s waaayyyy-too-big hat is a Michelle’s awesome slouch hat.

TARDIH 2.0

25 Dec

Quick update: I did make a new hat  for nephew and I like it A LOT better. I didn’t make the mistake of attempting intarsia in the round and made this hat flat. I sewed up the seam with a mattress stitch –which is one of my favorites, right up there with kitchener stitch.

Merry Christmas on the proper day that is Christmas!

TARDIH: Time And Relative Dimensions In Hat (It’s bigger on the inside)

24 Dec

I tend to be a little conflicted about gifting to people with Mid- to Late December birthdays. Do I give you a gift for your birthday AND Christmas? If I only give you one, will you feel cheated?

My nephew’s birthday is on the 14th. We gave him a Cardinals teddy bear for his birthday, but I felt a little guilty not having a Christmas present for him. So, this morning, I gathered up some blue, black, and white yarn for –wait for it — a TARDIS hat. Brilliant right?

It probably would have been better if I followed a pattern intended for worsted weight yarn, but alas, I never do follow those instructions. It turned out a little big, but I’m going to line it to make it fit… or I may even make a new one.

Regardless, here it is:

Just an update

13 Dec

Things have been a tad bit hectic in the life of Michelle.

It’s finals week and even though I have time to knit, I’m spending time at work for the sake of killing time with this:

I’ve been knitting some gifts and I’m sure that’s what I’ll do when I finally go home today.

It’s pretty obvious that I didn’t do my “365 days of knitting,” but I now realize that it was pretty unrealistic as a full-time student with a job and half a social life. I did finish a couple big projects over the summer –namely my sweater. I haven’t worn it yet, but I will eventually. It’s certainly cold enough.

I told a couple of my co-workers that I’m not leaving the office until it’s above 10°F. Aren (Editor-in-Chief) said I’d be here for a couple days. Truth.

I’m not sure how much knitting I’ll be able to do over break. This weekend is my nephew’s 1st birthday and Christmas #1. Next week, I should be able to spend a good amount of time knitting, which will be measured in “Psych” episodes. Christmas Eve is Christmas #2. I’ll have couple more days to knit between Christmas and my sister’s wedding in California. It’s a pretty packed weekend, so bringing my knitting stuff will be pointless. Plus, I have to find time to hit up my favorite food establishments (In ‘n Out Burger, Frodo Joe’s and a couple places in Oakland Chinatown) and catch up with friends. I’m not sure the next 3 weeks will really be a break.

A week after I return, it’s back to school I go.

If you don’t follow me on twitter, I invite you to read a couple movie reviews I did recently:
127 Hours
The King’s Speech
